Famine for three million people expected in Afghanistan

In a tragic turn of events it has been revealed by the UN that without immediate aid up to three million of the poorest workers in Afghanistan will face starvation. With one of the highest hunger rates in the world, a UN official revealed that at least eight million people are seriously malnourished, while another three million are on the verge of out right famine. Afghanistans UN humanitarian coordinator, Toby Lanzer has said “those people are surviving on less than one meal a day and in all likelihood that meal is based on bread and tea”. The Office for the coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) in Afghanistan said the situation is likely to be worse than that in South Sudan which according to the OCHA is at a level three or four shortage, resulting in 6 million people struggling for food. This is frankly heart breaking and disgusting to read, as the world produces more than enough food to feed everyone, with us producing enough to feed 10 billion people, yet millions starve to death a year. Solidarity to the workers of Afghanistan.
